History

In November of 2013 representatives from Dieppe, Moncton and Riverview minor baseball associations began to meet to discuss the possibility of forming a new association at the midget and junior levels in the Greater Moncton area.

It was agreed that a merger of the three associations at these levels would greatly benefit baseball in the area with the sharing of resources and facilities and by providing opportunities for more players to play at the competitive level. The new association would also create a more structured development program in the midget AAA, junior and senior levels in the area.

The Association became a reality January 9th 2014 when the Moncton and District Minor Baseball Association and the Riverview Minor Baseball Association agreed to merge at the midget and junior levels. Signing on behalf of Moncton was Paul Tubby Melanson and Mike Doucette. Signing on behalf of Riverview was Dave Doucette and Dave LeBlanc.

A new executive committee was formed to oversee operation of the new association and Mike Donahoe was named as the association’s first Executive Committee Chairman. The names Metro Baseball Association and Metro Mudcats were adopted, logos were designed and the colors orange, black and white were chosen.

A constitution and policy manual was written and the Association was accepted by and became a member of Baseball New Brunswick.

On April 28th 2014 the MBA became complete when the Mudcats welcomed the Dieppe Minor Baseball Association into the family. Signing on behalf of Dieppe were Guillaume Savoie and Gary Doucet. Mike Donahoe and Jody Dunnett signed for Metro.

In the Association’s inaugural season of 2014 four teams played under the Mudcats’ name: one in Junior, one in Midget AAA and two teams at the Midget AA level. All four teams enjoyed very successful seasons both on and off the field.

Darrell Christie’s AA team won the Summerside Midget AA Invitational tournament and the Midget AAA Mudcats won the Association’s first provincial championship earning the right to represent NB at the U18 Nationals in Magog, QB in 2015.

The MBA was proud to host the NB Midget AA Provincials Championships in 2014.

The Association’s first AGM was held Oct. 30th, 2014.
